Your cruise begins from your hotel where we will collect you and transfer you to Mekong Dawn boat. Greeting you by our Cruise Manager and the crew members with a welcome drink and checked into your cabins. As lunch is served, the boat will start a gentle cruise towards Koh Dach, also known as Silk Island. Silk Island is a typical rural Cambodian weaving village, where the population operates hand looms under most of the houses, others dyeing and spinning silk on spinning wheels made of bicycle parts. Weaver experts will explain the weaving process in detail from silkworms to scarfs. After the excursion on Silk Island, we will return to the boat and continue the journey toward Roka Kong where the boat will anchor for the night.
Day 2 / Roka Kong – Oudong – Kampong Tralach
The boat will begin its gentle ride toward Oudong as the sun rises, but you can take your time to rise for breakfast as you feel comfortable. Sit back to enjoy your new day among the rural splendor of this very scenic spot along the river. We dock at Koh Chen ‘Chinese Island’, a small village whose inhabitants specialize in silver and copper smithing. After lunch having allowed for the hottest time of the day to pass you will be transferred to the nearby Oudong Mountain, where a brisk climb takes you to one of the finest views in the Kingdom. From 1618 to 1866 this served as Cambodia’s capital city and an array of interesting stupas, tombs and memorials remain. When back at the boat, guests will enjoy a sundowner as the boat move forward to Kampong Tralach a local rural area with a natural beauty amongst the rice paddy. We enjoy dinner here before retiring for the night.
After a hearty breakfast, we will experience an Ox Cart ride – a traditional mode of transport that is still commonly used in rural areas today to visit Kampong Tralach Temple which was built in 1841. After the visit to the temple, we return back to Mekong Dawn and continue the journey toward Kampong Chhnang This town is famous for fish farming and pottery ware. Upon arrival guests will transfer to land via a smaller boat to visit the pottery village, tuk tuks will be used to get around the villages – the perfect way to watch the stunning scenery of this province. Think emerald green paddies dotted with sugar palms, water buffaloes lazily grazing in shimmering, lotus-lined ponds, and smiling children screaming ‘hello’ from the stilted wooden houses they call home. After the tour, return back to Mekong Dawn for a leisurely evening on board with dinner and drinks served amongst the scenic spot along the river.
Wake up for a hearty breakfast before disembark the Mekong Dawn Boat and continue the journey by air-conditioned coach toward Siem Reap and offer a glimpse into the laid-back rural life. On the way we will make a stop in Kampong Thom province for viewing an ancient bridge or make stop for coffee as you wish. Lunch at a local restaurant before visiting Kampong Phluk floating village a popular tourist attraction located on the Tanas River which flows into Tonle Sap Lake. The Village have over 1,000 permanent residents living in Stilt wooden houses. The Villages also feature a school, a Temple, a church and a number of restaurants Primarily catering to tourists. After visit you will be transfer to Siem Reap to your hotel around 4:00pm where your trip end!
